The controversy between gospel singer Tope Alabi and her late
"Spiritual Father" Pastor Ajanaku is one that a lot of people want to
know the truth about. Tope Alabi shares some with The Punch in this
chat:
Your husband has been supportive; he is even your manager...
He is no longer my manager. I have a new manager. He is the
marketer now. He is my boyfriend and the father of my children. He is
the small boy in the house that must eat first even if no other person
has eaten.
But most men don’t want their wives to be in the spotlight, how come
he supports you like this?
I just thank God for his life. You can imagine, when we go for
programmes, I would be given a seat in the front row while my
husband would be given a seat at the back. Imagine! I would always
tell him to come and sit in front so I can go to the back but he would
never agree. He would ask me if he was Tope Alabi. God has been
guiding us. How would I have managed without a husband like this?
Another story that generated some kind of controversy is the issue
you had with the late Pastor Ajanaku, did you ever make up before he
died?
On that issue, I would rather say no comment. When God is working in
your life, anything can happen along the line. The Israelites faced
turbulence and eventually got out of it. We need people who are
spirit-filled to just fold their arms and watch what God will do.
Some people say you are happy he is no more...
God doesn’t like anybody who rejoices over a friend or enemy’s death.
I cannot be an enemy of what God created. I can only be an enemy of
God’s enemy. If you don’t like God, certainly, I will not like you. But I
still say no comment on that issue.
Does it mean you will not tell us what really caused the problem
between you two?
No comment. I just want people to say what they want to say. You
are free. Your heart is not in my heart. People can speculate. People
can feel whatever they want to feel.
But we learnt he anointed another singer as his spiritual child and it
got you so upset...
I wasn’t there. I don’t know. So if I wasn’t there, how would I now
‘put mouth’ in something I don’t know about? I can’t say what I don’t
know.
But did you feel bad that he replaced you, even if you weren’t there,
you must have heard it?
I cannot feel bad. I didn’t feel bad. I can bring somebody today and I
decide to bring that person up. Anybody is free to do whatever he/she
feels like doing.
We learnt you also stopped attending his church…
Actually, I was never a member of his church but people don’t know
this. I am just a woman who loves to help ministries. I go to the
church and I give money, not small money. I can work for six months
and I take my tithe to him just to bless his ministry. I do that in other
ministries. I can minister in churches without collecting money. I
know what I have passed through. I know where I am coming from. I
want to bless God and thank Him.
The first day I ministered in his church, he gave me money but I
didn’t collect it. I never collected money from him in my life, but I
have donated millions to his church and so many other churches. I
have so many people living in my house that I don’t even know their
parents; and I just help them. I pay their fees. My husband helps the
widows, we donate to orphanages. We just want to help.

Kingdom, Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, has
explained that many Nigerians are refused
UK visas because they do not apply in good
time.
Speaking in London during a courtesy visit on
him by the Minister for Special Duties and
Inter-Governmental Relations, the High
Commissioner lamented that most Nigerian visa
applicants normally leave it very late before
applying, and may not meet the requirements
for the visa within the short time.
He said the situation was also the same with
British-Nigerians who apply for Nigerian visas,
disclosing that “99 per cent of their applications
fall within the category of urgent or emergency
visas”.
Dr Tafida who was responding to a complaint
by a member of the Minister’s delegation that
the UK often refuses visas even to top Nigeria
government officials said the UK’s visa policy
was “generous” compared with other countries.
“We should be fair to the UK. If you meet the
criteria, you get UK visa. The UK gives visas for
six months and up to ten years. Some countries
give visas for just four days”, he said, and urged
applicants to always start the visa process in
good time and endeavour to meet the stipulated
requirements to avoid last minute
disappointment.
Earlier in his remarks, the Minister, Alhaji
Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said he and his
delegation were in the UK to meet with
operators, regulators and agents of the National
Lottery with a view to imbibing their methods
and strategies to improve the operations of the
Nigeria National Lottery.
He explained that the meetings followed
directives by President Goodluck Jonathan that
the operations of the National Lottery be
overhauled to ensure transparency, inspire
confidence and create conducive atmosphere so
that the Lottery would be run “in tandem with
the global practices”.

2014, the Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motors has disclosed. He

What have you been up to lately? You haven’t been in the news. Is it a
deliberate decision?
Yes it is a deliberate decision. I’d rather be in the news for a good
reason. A good reason would be something positive. My video for No
Tomorrow just got released, so I’m promoting that.
For you, who is that one guy you would never forget in a hurry?
Well, as much as I would like to remember some, I’ve got what you
may call selective amnesia; so it’s all forgotten. I’m actually telling
you the truth. The reason why it is in the past is because it didn’t
work out and it must have hurt me. If it did, I’d forget it. I have
forced myself to forget things to the point where I don’t remember
things anymore.
Who was your first crush?
I think Michael Jackson or Bruce Lee. Michael was my love. He could
do no wrong in my eyes. He was perfect, black or white. I’m attracted
to super humans.
At what age did the love letters and advancements from men start in
your life?
I never really got love letters. Advancements from men began in my
teens.
So how was it coping with their advances at such a tender age?
That’s easy. We always had lines for the boys and the young men;
the ‘I will think about it’ to the ‘I’m sorry I have a boyfriend line’ was
always there.
Are you in a relationship?
Yes, I’m super emotional. I love love, but I’ve always been afraid of
love. But this time, I decided to let go. I haven’t looked back since.

Unlike many who have forcefully become the best friends of Komla
when they are not, and seem to know all his wishes, Ato takes his
piece to the heart of things—telling us the obvious attributes of Komla
Dumor and what kind of blessing he was to our generation.

I was never a part of Komla Dumor’s inner circle. He never called me
out for a drink. And he didn’t share any secrets with me. I am just
one of those guys who enjoyed the privilege of working with him.
That was more than I could ever ask for. I wasn’t with him at the
beginning. I couldn’t have been with him at the end. But in between,
our paths crossed and that’s how I get to call him a friend. A blessed
friend. A friend endowed with so much talent that whenever I heard
his voice I couldn’t help but marvel at how one man could get so
much.
He had an excellent voice. The truest voice of a broadcaster. That
voice was an instrument and he knew how to play it like a virtuoso.
He could capture any mood with that voice in a manner most
broadcasters struggle for years to achieve. Those inflections and the
ability to modulate the voice to suit the occasion came to him
naturally. It was an art. He knew his art. He knew his art because he
never stopped learning and looking for ways to perfect it.
was once chatting with a friend on facebook when he asked me to
find him a girlfriend. I proceeded to ask him his intention of wanting
to have for himself a girlfriend. His answer was quite shocking to me.
All that he was interested in was a girlfriend he could date for fun,
since almost all his friends were into relationships. To cut a long
story short, he was never concerned about the emotional stress he
would take somebody’s daughter through.
A psychoanalyst once said love is the only enterprise which is started
with incredible hopes and expectations and yet fails regularly.
When a romance fails, the result is often pain and heartbreak. And the
sad fact of life is that the only sure way to avoid getting a broken
heart is to avoid getting romantically involved in the first place.
Dating is a serious business in which one embarks on to select a
suitable marriage mate. Nevertheless, the very nature of dating often
makes it somewhat of a trial-and-error process. So it is not unusual
for two people to begin dating with the best of intentions, only to find
that they simply are not suitable for each other as marriage mates.
For most young people, relationships with the opposite sex are
frequently aggravated by an abundance of confusing sex drives. No
wonder then that youths often fall in love with the greatest of ease.
Simply being older does not make one immune to heartbreak. Older
ones sometimes leap into relationships too fast. They want
commitment too fast. Giving your heart to someone you hardly know
is one sure way to break it.
Majority of people look at things according to face value. Do not
make a similar mistake by getting romantically involved purely on the
basis of physical appearance. First try to find out what kind of person
the one you are trying to date is.
Even when someone’s reputation seems to be good and the interest is
mutual, I think it is still premature to start planning your wedding
immediately. A closer examination of this person may well reveal
serious personality flaws. How then can you get to know what this
one is really like?
While there is nothing wrong with engaging in recreational activities
together, courtship serves its purpose best when it also includes some
serious confidential talk. This would help you get to know the person
well enough.
Also, learning where he or she stands on key issues is something that
should be done at the outset, not later on when both are too
emotionally involved. If you wait till you are emotionally involved,
breaking up will surely cause heartbreak.
Courtship has the potential both for happiness and for misery. How
you handle courtship has a lot to do with the outcome. To me, there
is no way of guaranteeing that a relationship will work out.
And even after taking every precaution, heartbreak can still occur.
Nevertheless, by dating only when you are ready for marriage, keeping
your emotions under control, and exercising due caution, you can do
much to minimize heartbreak and maximize the possibility of a
courtship that will result in a happy marriage.

In its bid to keep up with the lead, Google will be paying for people’s
journey through its advertisers to encourage more people to use their
businesses.
The system would run on Google’s existing AdWords software, and in
the future, these journeys could even be carried out by Google’s self-
driving cars.
Google says the local businesses would compete for the adverts in
the same way firms currently compete for Google adverts on
webpages.

that, the next time you push the SEND button on twitter, remember
the law has changed and your tweet can fetch you a ‘gargantuan’
legal problem—including prison sentence.
All around the world, people have this misconception that they can
hide behind their computers and throw out abusive comments on
blogs, twitter and facebook—not knowing that the law has changed
drastically and they can be easily be fished out.
Apart from the fact that you can be sued for defamation for a few
lines of comment you send out through a blog or via twitter/facebook,
you can even be sentenced to prison for what you say on such
platforms.

Two Twitter trolls who abused a high-profile feminist who campaigned
for women to be used on banknotes have been jailed.
Isabella Sorley, 23, and John Nimmo, 25, both told campaigner
Caroline Criado-Perez they wanted her to die in a series of vile
messages.
As he jailed the pair at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Judge
Howard Riddle said it was ‘hard to imagine more extreme threats’.
Sorley was given 12 weeks behind bars while co-defendant Nimmo
was given eight weeks in prison.

After years of crisis and political violence, the Republic of Central
Africa began the first phase of its transition to democratic civilian
governance by electing Catherine Samba-Panza to act as an interim
President. A study of the political history of the country showed that
Samba-Panza is the first female to become the president of the
country.
Who is Catherine Samba-Panza?
The 59-year-old former Bangui mayor was born on June 26, 1954 in
Fort Lamy, Chad to a Cameroonian father while her mother was from
CAR.
She studied law in France where two of her three children still live.
Before getting into politics, she worked as a corporate lawyer. She
was also active in a women’s rights organisation.
Ms. Samba-Panza succeeds CAR’s first Muslim leader Michel
Djotodia, who resigned on January 10 after being put under pressure
by regional leaders and the former colonial power, France, over his
failure to curb the conflict.
She is a Christian but the successful businesswoman is seen as
politically neutral. Samba-Panza was the Chairwoman of the National
Dialogue in 2003 which was established to address conflict in the
region.
She was appointed mayor of Bangui by the National Transitional
Council during the 2012 -2013 conflict.
Her appointment was accepted by both sides in the conflict as she
was viewed as politically neutral.
How she emerged
She emerged after the former president, François Bozize, was
pressurised to step down by the international community amid violent
clashes between Muslim and Christian groups.
She was elected as the top candidate amongst seven contenders in a
vote by the transitional parliament on Monday. Samba-Panza won 75
votes in the run-off, against 53 for Mr. Kolingba, the son of a former
president.
The election went to a second round after Ms. Samba-Panza failed to
secure an outright majority in the first round. Six other candidates
were knocked out in the first round. Among them were two women
and two sons of former presidents.
They all had to meet the stringent requirements set by the National
Transitional Council. All those who had held political offices under
previous interim president, Michel Djotodia, as well as all party
leaders and active members of the military were not allowed to run for
the presidency. Also among those excluded from the top job were
members of militia groups.
About 129 members of the 135-seat council took part in the secret
ballot, AFP reports.

bad as polytechnic lecturers accuse The Federal Government of
Insincerity. The ASUP/FG
meeting was called by the federal government to
resolve the 3-month-old strike embarked upon by
Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, (ASUP)
nationwide. The F.G delegation to the meeting, held
at the federal secretariat in Abuja, is led by the
Education Minister, Nyesom Wike, while ASUP is led
by its president, Chibuzor Asamogu. The meeting
went rowdy when the leadership of the National
Association of Polytechnic Students, (NAPs), invited
as observers to the meeting, accused the lecturers of
fighting for selfish interests. The ASUP members
fumed and accused the federal government of

however, also accused the government of

This 20-year-old woman has been left fighting for her
life in hospital today after a kangaroo court in India
ordered her to be gang-raped for having an affair
with a youth from another village. The brutal
punishment was allegedly carried out by the very
same ‘court’ which found her guilty in a village near
Suri in west Bengal state, 150 miles from Kolkata.
DailyMail reports that, last Monday afternoon, a
group of tribal men found the woman sitting with her
lover, who is from Chowhatta village and of a
different religion. They dragged the two of them to a
religious place known as a ‘than’ where a makeshift
court was hastily put together on the orders of the
tribal chieftan. Police said that the youth was told to
pay a fine of £245 and warned that if he did not pay,
men from the village would ‘have fun with the girl.’
With no money forthcoming, the woman was
allegedly tied to a tree before she was forced into a
shed and raped continuously until Tuesday morning.
Despite her critical condition and clinging to life, the
female victim managed to tell her story to The Times
of India. She told the paper: ‘I had an affair with a
man. We were dragged to a gathering where our
community headman was present. They told me to
pay 50,000 rupees (£490). When I said I couldn’t,
they brutalised me.’ A doctor told the paper that the
young woman was alive ‘only because she is a tough
tribal girl. The woman’s distraught mother said that
‘the crime was committed by our own people.’ She
added: ‘They tortured my daughter and dumped her
home late at night. We were threatened not to go to
police. We tried to go to Bolpur hospital, but they
stopped us.’ The woman’s family were forced to
remain indoors throughout Tuesday, doing their best
to care for their daughter who was bleeding from
severe injuries. According to the Times of India, the
family managed to slip out late on Wednesday
afternoon and took the woman to a health centre,
where doctors said she should be taken immediately
to the nearest hospital. But from that hospital she
was shifted on to Suri hospital in a critical condition
at night. ‘This is when the crime came to light,’ said
police officer Prashanta Chowdhury. ‘She was gang
raped and the details are yet to be investigated.’ The
shocking incident is not the first time that a woman
has been punished for having an affair in the area.
Four years ago a teenage girl was stripped and forced
to walk naked through four villages, during which
hundreds of people molested her and mocked
her.They even filmed her with mobile phones, which
resulted in police moving into the area and making arrest
The girl received a bravery award from Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh and today she lives in a state-run
welfare home.

A popular Pastor who operates and resides in Oyo State, Pastor
Adepoju who was a former pastor at The Apostolic Church, TAC, Oke
Afata, has stabbed his pastor friend to death in his home. Adepoju
left Ibadan for Osun State to meet with his friend, identified as Pastor
Julius Olusoji Oguntoye in Osun State pretending to be there for a
courtesy visit.
After Pastor Oguntoye welcomed him to his home, Pastor Adepoju
immediately brought out a knife from his suit and stabbed his friend
several times, on his head, chest and stomach. While stabbing him, he
accused him of using his glory and that of his children...
Oguntoye, 48, was buried on Monday in Ede, Osun State amid tears.
Some of his members described him as an easy going person who
cannot hurt a fly. He was reportedly transferred to Gbongan five
months ago from Ede, where he served for 12 years as a Pastor.
Interestingly, Adepoju was the best man of late Oguntoye when he got
married several years ago. The killer pastor has been arrested by the
police and charged to court.
The angry judge immediately remanded the pastor in prison pending
his trial.
