Veteran and award winning actor Olu Jacobs and wife Joke Silva have
been married for 27 years now.
While most men would insist their wives change their last names
immediately, Mr Jacobs, in this new interview with NastyGist.Com
explained why he let his wife maintain her maiden name.
Since you got married, your wife has maintained her maiden
name. Why has she not adopted your own name?
She is her own individual. When I met her, she was an actress known
as Joke Silva so why should marrying me now deny her and her
audience her name. She is Miss Joke Silva who is Mrs. Joke Jacobs.
It is as simple as that. People now begin to say what they like. They
have even written that we are separated and all sort of stuffs. When
she is working, she is Joke Silva but she is Mrs. Joke Jacobs at
home.
Aside: Network in my area has been sooo poor since yesterday. I've
been on my laptop all day today but can't publish posts. Had to
switch from MTN to Airtel, still no major difference. Mbok, bear with
me.
Finally, seasoned producer, OJB Jezreel has landed in Nigeria months
after undergoing a successful kidney transplant in India.
Jezreel, who was earlier expected to return on Saturday, 7th December
2013, according to what I just learnt, actually breezed in on Thursday,
5th December 2013.
His return at an earlier date was arranged to make it a surprise for
everyone.
Sources say Jezreel is being lodged now in a hotel at an undisclosed,
secret location, not far from his Surulere, Lagos residence.
This also was to allow him have enough rest as he recuperates, to
avoid him being disturbed by fans who anxiously looked forward to
receive him.
The music producer returned with his wife, Mabel Okungbowa, who
donated one of her kidneys to save him.

the scandal:
You eventually came into the spotlight and it opened doors to
controversies and scandals
I have been in the news lately. My manager told me that I am a
balloon on top of lots of needles. People want me to drop on those
needles and get deflated. He told me to be careful. The first time was
when my nude picture went viral. I actually went for a photo shoot for
my friend. I wore a tube dress. Some mischief makers actually
cropped off the lower part of the picture and posted it on the Internet.
It was as if I was nude. I wasn’t happy at all. I had that picture. I had
to post the real picture on the net and people now got convinced the
nude picture wasn’t original.
I thought that was the end, I didn’t know a bigger scandal was
coming…
You mean the séx video?
Oh yes. I woke up one morning and I was greeted on the internet with
‘Chidinma and séx tape’. I was worried primarily because of my
mother. I didn’t let her see the video but I had to show her the
photos. I didn’t want to go out that day. I couldn’t go out. But my
mum felt otherwise. She told me to ignore the mischief makers. I
almost took some actions but I thought against it. I met Sound
Sultan on a set. He told me, ‘Babe, you are now a star. I welcome you
officially into the industry.’ I trended for three days. Even people who
didn’t know me got to know me. My fan base grew.
And then, I was happy because more than 90 per cent of the public
didn’t believe I was the one in that video. There were people who
didn’t need to see the video to believe I couldn’t have done such
thing. I am just grateful to everyone who didn’t believe the story. My
twitter account was hacked and the people created another account.
They kept releasing nasty pictures and they were even responding to
the tweets as if I was the one doing it. I was just watching and
laughing. It put me in the spotlight. I used it for good.
The battle over which party will be in charge of the National Assembly
is still on. It seems the APC has made it in the House of Reps, just
waiting for the right time to make the announcement. Now the
political power tussle has shifted to the senate where 22 senators
elected on the platform of the PDP are said to be on their way to join
the APC, thus increasing the chance of the leading opposition party.
“As we speak, those of us who have made up our minds to seek
a new platform for our political future are not fewer than 22 in
this Senate,” said a PDP senator who's set to join APC.
Although the National Chairman of the embattled PDP, Bamanga
Tukur, had on Wednesday paid a visit to the Senate to beg the
leadership to stop their members from joining APC, but it ended as a
failed attempt.
One of the angry Senators thundered, as he walked out of the meeting
with Tukur in Abuja:
“Tukur did not know how I contested and won my election; he will not
also know how I will contest and win the next election,” adding that
2015 will be a big shocker for the PDP.
You may wish to know that PDP currently has 72 Senators, APC has
33, LP 3 and APGA 1. But with 22 of them now joining the APC, it
means the APC will now have 55, will PDP will be left with just 50.
Also, a credible source disclosed that the APC now have a confirmed
majority in the House of Reps. “The new arithmetic of the lawmakers
in the House is 137 APC members plus 57 new PDP members that
recently joined, making a total of 194 members.”
The battle for the governorship of Anambra State has shifted to the
court. The State Election Tribunal presided over by Justice J.K.
Kaigama has given an order directing the Independent National
Electoral Commission to allow the All Progressive Congress, APC,
access to all documents used for the conduct of the "fraudulent"
November 16th, 17th and 30th, 2013, governorship election.
The documents, according to the order of the court, include the voter
registers used, the elections result sheets, Form EC 17-Oath of
neutrality by all staff, used and unused ballot papers.
Also to the released to the party are list of all ad-hoc and permanent
staff used for the elections, staff payment vouchers for the settlement
of allowances of all the ad-hoc staff.
To is to allow for inspection, copying and to enable APC fight its case
properly. The judge ordered INEC to do so urgently to enable APC, the
petitioner move expeditiously.
APC had approached the court for with a motion for the order on the
basis of the attached draft, which the court granted as prayed.
Even though a penis is controlled by the nervous system, it also has a

mortal enemies. A typical testicles need to be warm to effectively
make sperm and testosterone. So when you stay too long in a chilly
air-condition room on a daily basis, try to take a ten minutes’ walk in
a warm environment away from the cold. But there is no correlation
between penis size and shoe size, hand size or wallet size.
And the worst exercise for the penis is masturbation. Masturbation is
not healthy at all. Smoking isn’t just bad for your lungs; it is also bad
for the penis. It’s no secret that smoking clogs the arteries, including
those that fill the penis with blood, especially at the initial stage of
ejaculation. This means the penises of smokers may have a harder
time rising to its full potential at the occasion of sexual activities.
Also, men will go limp if they drink too much.
Men really do get ‘blue-balls, technically called ‘prostatic congestion
which is caused by ‘trapped’ blood in the testicles. It has been
discovered that a lukewarm shower or aspirin will also do the trick.
With a vasectomy, a man can still be a father because some sperm
cell can still hang around, ready, willing and able to cause a woman
to be pregnant two weeks post operation. So, it’s important to use
some kind of protection until your family doctor says the coast is
clear.
Please note that if an erection comes on and refuses to go away, this
is not a miracle, but a medical emergency. This means that the blood
flow that causes an erection doesn’t eventually leave the penis.
Serious complications can result, like blood clots and some major
damage.

Should I or should I not?
Seven months ago, my wife of 11 years suddenly left my home
unannounced with my seven-year-old last child. I was so worried I
had to report the case to the police who after series of searching,
eventually discovered that she actually moved to the house of one of

Why should I be careful about semen analysis?
I have done quite a number of semen analyses, yet I can’t make my
wife get pregnant. Why should I be careful about semen analysis or
continue to carry out the same test?

Are you sure you are carrying out the necessary test? Frankly
speaking, semen analysis is not a measure of fertility; rather, it is a
measure of sperm production and sperm delivery. So, a single semen
analysis really does not mean everything is normal or abnormal. It
just means there’s normal production, normal delivery of sperm. Most
men, when there are concerns about fertility, will be told to get a
semen analysis. It is a good thing but it is important that if a man
has concerns over fertility, he has at least two and probably three
separate semen analyses, each one after three days of abstinence,
each about six to eight weeks apart. And then, and only then, can you
say you have successfully completed the test.
Is it advisable to send a spy after my partner?
If a husband or wife notices some suspicious moves, activities and
behaviour in the life of his or her partner especially sexual life, Is it
advisable for the suspecting partner to send spies to get adequate
information before taking necessary action, If no, why?

I do not think it is a wise idea. One thing is certain, there is nothing
hidden that will not be revealed over a period of time. And from
observation, when you are not too sure of something, it is either you
patiently wait for a proper timing or you wisely confront your spouse.
And if he or she denies the confrontation, you can just keep your
calm. Things will definitely reveal themselves sooner than you think.
But if you start sending spies here and there, searching for
information, digging up stories, you may end up destroying the very
thing you want to protect. Where mistrust, doubt, and suspicion reign,
every air that blows is a potential danger bomb.
Can erectile dysfunction prevent pregnancy?
Apparently yes but this depends greatly on the degree and level of the
erectile dysfunction challenge. If it is a chronic erectile dysfunction, it
has 75-83 per cent of preventing pregnancy, especially when the
erection is not hard enough for effective ejaculation or when the man
ejaculates just at the tip of the vagina. If it is an acute erectile
dysfunction [ a sudden event of either premature ejaculation or quick
ejaculation], there may be a likelihood of the man being able to

holding periodic and genuine elections by universal suffrage are
essential elements of democracy. In turn, democracy provides the
natural environment for the protection and effective realization of
human rights. These values are embodied in the Universal Declaration
of Human Rights .” –UN.
Nigeria does not have a democracy. There is politics in Nigeria, in fact
too much of it, but no democracy. Having civilian rulers does not
make a democracy. And unlike the USA, where as Hilary Clinton said-
in-Nigeria, “our democracy is yet evolving,” Nigeria does not yet have
a democracy, so nothing is evolving.
Democracy is about the provision of, and protection of Human Rights.
It is not simply a process of putting papers in ballot boxes. The
conditions to test; questions to ask ourselves are: Are we lead or
ruled? Are any of those who rule us the people we would really choose
with our eyes open? Do those who rule us represent us and provide us
our basic rights? Do they lead us to where we need be, or do they
only rule over us for their gains? Are we able to remove them when
they fail?
And then, can we honestly say that the 80 million rural dwellers are
represented, know candidates and vote for candidates to lead them in
our current system, or these villagers do not count in the selection
but suffer the most from its consequences; these rural dwellers who
account for 80% of our 100 million destitute population. These
questions are essential conditions democracy fulfils; do we have
them?
Choosing leadership is not the single reason why democracy is
advocated and why nations adopt it. Getting rid of leaderships is the
difference, beauty, essence and unique advantage of democracy. That
is the point of democracy. If a so-called ‘juvenile’ democracy does
not yet have the ‘eviction’ capacity, it is not a democracy. Democracy
is a very expensive system. The idea of applying this method is not
because you for one second think the candidate you are choosing is a
great person.
Does this mean we hate our sons and daughters who sign-up with
the military? Or we think these disciplined family members are less of
people and do not have what it takes to lead a nation? The ability to
terminate the leadership is as important as the provision of selection.
And we must actively have both; having only the one is as good as
having none.
In biology of the cell, when a cell fails to pass a ‘check-point,’ the cell
automatically tries to repair the problem, and when it is unable, the
cell kills itself in a process called Apoptosis. This protects cells from
becoming cancerous. In our traditional systems, we used to apply
such systems as giving the king the empty calabash or gift of
parrot’s eggs, which tells him he has been disapproved of and must
take his own life.
Good enough people are plentiful and we actually usually end up with
the worst of us with democratic choice. The politician candidates we
choose, even if ‘good’ now, we do know they can change to bad
people too, and may already be bad people in sheep’s clothing. But
we go through that arduous, money wasting, ethnic-fracturing,
nation-wrecking, lengthy process of campaigns, political jamborees,
pauses in governance, political mismanagement and all other pains of
democratic processes, simply because democracy should provide us
certain conditions. These conditions are the primary reasons and
requisites of democracy.
The first is the perceived ability abinitio to have a choice of
candidates that all have a real chance of actually coming into power.
Democracy is all about choice. One and even two party systems limit
and cancel any reality of choice. A malicious cabal chooses in
primaries and the nation is forced to accept and vote-in that one
choice or tops, two choices in two party systems. Abolishing parties
and at least, prohibiting or capping party expenses which could be by
government equal funding of all campaigns, with no private financing
allowed, can resolve these, embezzlement and many other campaign
financing related issues.
The second condition for a true democracy is the ability to vote out
candidates at their term, without conversation of extension of term or
threat of terror if they lose the next round. We do not have this.
The third is the ability and likelihood of impeachment of candidates
who fail to execute their obligations, within terms. After all, nature
usually has its way of ridding us of military dictatorships, and they
are usually replaced in our particular experience in about 8 years,
making them not much different in terms of lengthy terms, than
civilian regimes. Our rules should be firm and protected.
When people are unable to select their candidates but are only
imposed candidates, and when only certain party-elite blocks'
imposed candidates have the ability to win, and when candidates
cannot be voted out until two terms are completed and/or terms are
extended, and then finally when impeachment for failure within term
are unavailable, then we have a disguised dictatorship.
On Tuesday the 3rd of December, 2013, the U.S. House of
Representatives Committee on the Judiciary met to discuss the
impeachment of President Barack Obama. The hearing was titled “The
President’s Constitutional Duty to Faithfully Execute the
Laws.” {Washington Post}
Republican senators felt Obama had not faithfully executed the laws
of the land and so they considered impeachment. Ex-US President Bill
Clinton was impeached for “laughable” reasons.
The risk and reality of impeachment is as vital to democracy as is the
voting process. Leaders merit democracy’s bounty when they are
voted in power, and the masses reap its fruit when the leaders know
they can and will be impeached when they lie, steal, or in any way fail
in their duty to execute the law.
The Nigerian system does not have this key aspect of democracy and
as such it is not a democracy. The entire legislature is bribed to
abandon their obligation to protect the right of the masses for a
check on government.
But to make our non-democracy even more apparent, consider the
recurrent dimension of our system with the proposal of term
elongations when candidates either realize their term is set to expire
or they realize they cannot win again.
The CNPP party said those who suggested a term elongation deserved
investigation and repudiation. They were spot-on. Nigerians elected
leaders based on 4 year term expiration. That was the deal, the
package. To waste time, money and muddy the national intelligence
by proposing term elongations is frankly criminal.
Will there be a referendum? Are there term truncations? How about
the more suggestion to consider a term reduction to 3 years to more
favorably resolve the quagmire that this political block has put the
nation into?
As it stands, the Nigeria is begging for a democracy. One had to just
take a look at the recent Anambra elections to know it was and will
continue to waste its time as the leadership continues to take
advantage of and promote our dictatorial system.
The pictures of those women throwing themselves on and rolling on
the ground were pathetic but clearly pretentious. Overall they
demonstrated the fact that the system in place did not serve the
people and abused the people.
Secondly, in the Anambra election, there were over a million invalid
votes, the second largest vote counted. Ballot sheets where voters
filled out nonsense. With the general interested populace not being
able to vote, this democracy is no democracy as far as people’s
choice goes.
There was open and widespread distribution of bribes to buy voters.
Indomie noodles boxes (not scholarships) were one such cheap
buyoff.
And the candidate party disputes, the widely reported fraud, these
things will never go away and as long as they exist, we end up with
imposed rulers and not leaders we sort of chose.
In satisfaction of my ideals for my human rights, that I may deem I
have a democracy, the minimum I would require is for the
administration to establish an enlightened committee to sit down and
trash our leadership selection process from scratch. So long as we
continue with this useless selection program and are denied
expulsions for failure, my rights are not protected and I am not under
a democracy.
Our return to a less tribal and ethnic provocative and less societal
rendering parliamentary system of leadership selection is a proposed
tactic many have presented that needs to be tabled. When 40 million
people go to ballots all around the nation to vote for candidates they
know next to nothing of, except a few posters here and there and as
we know, having received some peanuts in enticement during
campaigns, what results is wars, and the election of the most
unworthy. With a parliamentary system, people are restricted to
choosing only their local representatives who they have a better
chance of actually knowing and holding to account, and it is these
reps that select from among them the President. This reduces cost
and eliminates volatile complaint and social-media curses being
thrown at the top.
We should consider reducing usage of ballots which simply do not
work for us. Let us redesign from our objective—representation. The
idea is to get representatives and in this, this system fails us. Our
market places have representative leaders we are comfortable with.
Our Universities have representative leaders we trust, our mechanic
unions have leaders we are comfortable with. Our religious
organizations select leaders based on skill, rather easily. And all these
are chosen inexpensively without bloodshed or precipitating hatred.
These same social group leaders can be our representatives? This can
be considered to stave off this billion dollar wasteful system that
yields nothing.
It is time we have a democracy in Nigeria.

to seek re-election after his first term in office as his presidency
elapsed. I still recall his pragmatic words when he said to me

who spent 27 of the prime years of his life in prison for a just

Beautiful and curvaceous Nollywood actress and singer, Anita Joseph
renowned for her controversial nature is back in the news. This time
around she is not raising the dust about anybody but herself,
particularly about her body overly serrated with tattoos.
Anita Joseph, in a chat with WG Anita revealed she is frustrated with
her tattoos.
“ I regret my tattoos. It is something I wish I never had” she said “ it’s
so addictive. You do one, you would do again and again.
Anita said she has tattoos in six parts of her body: back of her palm,
waist, top of her boobs, left leg, neck and arm.
When asked if the tattoos connote anything or mean anything to her,
she replied:
“Not necessarily, I just loved tattoos. But that was when I haven’t
grown up and never knew it’s wrong in God’s sight”
Anita Joseph confirmed she is now a born-again Christian now and
added she has now realised “tattoos are unsightly before God”, even
quoting the Bible to back her position.
She said she wished people who are yearning to do so would desist
from the sinful act, saying she is ready to clean hers out.
Her desire to speak out against this trend (tattoos) which is most
common among entertainers is born out of an encounter with a fan,
whom Anita said told her she wanted to have tattoos as Anita’s
because she sees Anita as her mentor and would do anything Anita
does.
“ She said I love everything about you and so whatever you do I want
to do. I begged her not to have tattoos because tattoos are addictive.
She was happy and thanked me for telling the truth. At the end of the
day, I was happy I touched someone positively. That told me that
whatever I do, someone, somewhere wants to do it, so now I am
careful of what I do now” she said.
The Peoples Democratic Party is not giving up yet, despite loosing five
of its governors to the APC in one say in an historic political merger.
The party says Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who it frustrated with
suspension and other forms of intimidation, is not gone yet. Now they
want Amaechi and others back.
Less than 24hours after PDP chairman, Bamanga Tukur told
journalists at the National Assembly, after meeting with PDP
Senators, that the governors are not gone yet, the party has released
a statement:
“The fact remains that our elected and appointed officers,
including our governors share the same ideals and principles
with the administrators of the party and remain unflinchingly
committed to the visions of the founding fathers.
“The PDP is not only a political party but a belief which cannot
be easily jettisoned. It is a belief in national interest; a belief in
the unity of the country and in satisfying the interests of the
common man," said PDP through its publicity secretary in a
statement on Thursday.
But reacting to Tukur and his hurriedly written statement, the five
governors who left PDP said:
"Instead of facing the reality he is talking about people not
leaving. The movement of people away from the PDP is not under his
control, what is under his control is the level of impunity and
brigandage that is within the party. He has powers to do that within
the PDP.
“He has no powers to determine whether people leave the PDP or not.
He can control the machinery of the PDP, but he cannot control the
conscience of the people.”
The Nkwerre Vigilante Network this week arrested a six-man gang
specialized in the sale of human parts for rituals and transplant in
Nkwerre, Imo State. The men confessed to kidnapping their victims at
various locations in the state and using their parts for ritual
purposes. Some parts they sold to people who needed them for
transplant. Yeah, there are human beings like this amongst us.
The men, who are mostly bricklayers, confessed that they sell the
parts from N500k to N1million, depending on the parts in demand.
Two of the ritual killers were found to be pastors.
The men took the vigilante network members and some policemen to
their hideout which is a forest in Umugara Village in Nkwerre. There,
police found the decomposing corpses of some of their victims,
mostly women and children.

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Joseph Mbu, on Thursday
appeared before the National Human Rights Commission to answer to
allegations of partisanship levelled against him by Governor Rotimi
Amaechi.
He met with the Commission's panel of inquiry behind closed doors in
Abuja but when he came he encountered some journalists outside and
here is what the Police Commissioner told them:
“I think the issues in Rivers State are overblown. We are working
with the governor amicably, but one thing is clear – the enemies
of the governor are not my enemies.
“I am a police officer, an umpire and my job is to make sure that
I protect everybody who is in Rivers State. That is my
professional calling and I stand by it.”
Governor Amaechi is however accusing Mbu of various forms of
human rights abuses and insubordination.

before stepping in and later he started issuing threats to the striking

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has called
on Governor Fashola to learn from their Oga at the top, President
Goodluck Jonathan, especially in the area of development.
“Governance must be distinguished from partisan politics and we
salute President Jonathan for practising this. We hope Fashola
would learn such sincere governance from him.”
The party said this against the backdrop of the Federal Government’s
approval of a $200m loan sought by the Lagos State Government.
The party, in a statement by its publicity secretary, Taofik Gani, read
in part:
“In the opinion of the party, the Federal Government’s gestures to an
opposition state government has further confirmed that the
Jonathan-led PDP Government is indeed a government of
development with human face and with clear direction, contrary to the
impression being sponsored by the All Progressives Congress.
“Unlike Fashola and his council chairmen who are deliberately witch
hunting our few councillors by denying their wards developmental
projects, the PDP Federal Government has continually supported the
Lagos State Government to develop. This is how progressive
government is run."
The party also applauded the decision of the Federal Government to
approve $1.3bn for the commencement of construction of a deep
seaport at Lekki.
The PDP also claimed that many of the structures in La were laid by
the Federal Government.

imprisoned for life but that did not quiet him. Nelson Mandela

We do not pretend to have all the answers, but we love the people
and seek their best welfare. That alone distinguishes us from the
present lot in power. We know the kind of country we want to live in.
We have given the present group too much time already. Now that we
know their emptiness, we must work to be the part of change we want
to see.

bridges across political divides and re-align forces to gather a critical
mass strong enough to push for change.
Nigeria today is an incomplete work, sometimes exhibiting more
retreat than progress, more problems than solutions. Some
people say we are doomed for failure. To them, I say their

Information reaching NastyGist.Com from the federal capital
territory, Abuja, is that a huge explosion rocked a popular filling
station in the city centre, just by the offices of the Nigeria National
Petroleum Corporation building in Abuja's Central Business District
on Thursday afternoon.
The unfortunate incident has thrown the area into panic mood as
workers are scampering for safety.
A source at the scene of the explosion told OluFamous.Com on phone
that the incident was caused by tanker that was in the process of
discharging petroleum product into a Conoil filling station's reserve
tank.
As at the time of filling this report, my source say the fire from the
tanker has spread to the pumps in the filling station. NNPC Fire
Service who are in the vicinity do not have water, making the
situation worse.
Update from Abuja as at 19:00 hours is that a combined team of fire
fighters have put out the fire.

For those who may not agree with me on the choice of actresses
in this list, you are free to draw your own conclusions. However,
note that this is not a list of ‘The Top Actresses in Nollywood
based on over-exposure on Red Carpets’ or some whimsical fan
base.
This list is based on talent, characterisation, body of artistic
work for the year in review
and most of all interpretation of the roles the actresses played.
I watched a number of films this year and as many as were being
churned out in all the zones, I had to pin-point my search to
specifics.
None was judged on nebulous criteria such as ‘how many years
one has spent acting’ or awards won in other climes in the year
in question. Whether new or old, the actresses on this list gave a
rousing performance in 2013 and I applaud them.

NUMBER 5: RITA DOMINIC
Rita had a good year. Winning ‘Best Actress’ a couple of times
(among many nominations ) for the movie ‘The Meeting’. I also
watched her in another recently released movie, ‘Finding Mercy’ but
felt that she gave a listless and lukewarm performance in that flick. In
‘The Meeting’, Rita was smoking. I would say that for the first time
since I have been seeing her in movies, she found the right script
which explored her acting depths.
Rita Dominic has more to prove in Nollywood, either as an actress or
as a Producer. If it is the former, then she has to be careful about her
choice of scripts from now on because there might be false slips
ahead. A good actress anyday, she is.
NUMBER 4: YVONNE OKORO
Now this would raise eyebrows with people asking if Yvonne is from
Nollywood since she is associated more with Ghana. Nomencletures
do not matter to me. Nollywood is a global brand and is a huge
platform for all African actors to make their mark.
I must confess that I had not watched much of Yvonne’s movies
before ‘The Contract’. I just knew her name from a few social media
buzz which was neither here nor there for me. So when I watched her
performance in ‘The Contract’, my curiousity gave way to admiration.
She interpreted the role quite well. There was an almost effortless
transistion of moods and emotions in her characterisation and she
had the audience eating out of the palms of her hands all through the
movie.
NUMBER 3: DAMILOLA ADEGBITE
A surprise resignation from ‘TINSEL’in 2012 , made most people
wonder if Damilola knew what she was doing. She gave reasons for
leaving the televsion serial; to concentrate on her acting career.
Watching her in Michelle Bello’s ‘Flower Girl’ brought home the
wisdom in her career curve.
I have always held the notion that Damilola has a powerful screen
presence. There’s something sultry and appealing about her looks on
screen. Very few actors have that aura. In Damilola’s case, I thought
it wasn’t yet explored to the maximum. In ‘Flower Girl’, that screen
aura combined with a visible attempt at internalisation and
visualisation by Damilola in her role, made many see her in a whole
new light. Finally, the stirrings of a Super Actress is beginning to
show.
NUMBER 2: TAMARA ETIENO
Many people would not remember her name and it is likely many
would have forgotten her as the winner of ‘The Next Movie Star’
Reality show a couple of years back
Tamara was simply awesome in the movie ‘Desperate Housegirls’! She
gave an organic and jaw-dropping performance which must her won
her new fans and etched her name somewhere on the consciousness
of movie lovers. There was a closeness to method acting when
watching her in ‘Desperate Housegirls’ and she must be commended
for making acting interesting again especially as we have been
assailed with talentless actors and actresses in the past few years. I
predict that Tamara is going to shine in a few months
NUMBER 1: MERCY JOHNSON
Mercy would be my number one choice for ‘Best Actress’ in 2013.
She has simply been awesome in the her movies this year. There’s
something ultra-natural and organic about Mercy Johnson which
confounds even her critics. She can act. She delivers. In four movies I
watched in 2013, which she starred in, she was the epitome of
delightful characterisation. Watch her in the ‘Dumebi’ spawn of
movies and you would appreciate how her talent has evolved since
she came back from her Maternity Break.
Mercy is a chameleonic actress, one with the uncanny ability to
immerse herself in her roles. She can play the victimised House Maid
in one movie and switch to the Lady Boss in the next. In fact, if the
role suits her, she comes out smoking.
She is arguably the Best Actress for 2013. You can quote me on that.

2. A Word About the Motivation of Catholics
It is important to realize that most of the clergy and lay people that
teach Roman Catholic
doctrine are not deceiving people with malicious intent. They are
simply passing on what has been passed
on to them, sincerely believing that they have the truth. Catholics
must believe all dogmas of their church
or be anathema (eternally cursed).
Prayer, love, compassion, and understanding are needed along with
the power of the Word of
God to penetrate their hearts. Patience is needed to untangle Roman
Catholics from the dogmatic web in
which they are held captive.
(Colossians 2:8 KJV) Beware lest any man spoil you through
philosophy and vain deceit, after the
tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
When witnessing to Roman Catholics, remember to:
1. Pray before, during, and after (Colossians 4:2-6).
2. Establish agreement on truth (John 14:6; 17:3.17).
3. Stay focused on the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
4. Establish the relationship between the Scripture and tradition
(Mark 7:7-13, Psalm 119, 2 Timothy 3:15,16).
5. Establish the relationship between the teachings of men and the
Word of God (Acts17:11, 1 John 2:27).
6. Persuade them to repent of their dead works and turn to Christ
alone in faith alone (Hebrews 6:1).
7. Make disciples of them by inviting them to a Scripture study
(Matthew 28:18-20).

THE SCRIPTURE TELLS US THAT IT IS A WISE PERSON WHO TRIES TO
WIN THE SOUL
OF HIS FELLOW MAN FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD.
(Proverbs 11:30 KJV) The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he
that winneth souls is wise.
We reflect on this Scriptures as we sincerely strive to approach the
subject of Roman Catholicism.
If Catholics are saved by following the teachings and practices of the
Roman Catholic Church, we
should leave them alone. If that is not the outcome, we have an
obligation to witness to them for the sake
of their eternal soul.
The concern for souls should be our only reason for studying the
Roman Catholics; not to win
arguments or debates, but to give us knowledge to help deliver them
from deception.
3. We should always examine our attitudes and motives when we deal
with this subject or any other to make
sure that love for the soul dictates how we deal with those concerned.
(2 Timothy 2:23-26 KJV) But foolish and unlearned questions avoid,
knowing that they do gender strifes. {24} And the servant of the Lord
must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, {25}
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God
peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the
truth; {26} And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of
the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
The subject of Roman Catholicism is a volatile subject and no matter
how gently one deals with the issue,
you are guaranteed to make a few people mad. The following
statement made in 1917 accurately accesses
the situation.
"I am aware that, if I undertake to prove that Romanism is not
Christianity, I must expect to be called, 'bigoted, harsh, uncharitable.'
Nevertheless I am not daunted; for I believe that on a right
understanding of this subject depends the salvation of millions." (p.
288 THE FUNDAMENTALS Volume III, Reprinted 1993 by Baker
Books.)
The speaker was T. W. Medhurst, of Glasgow, Scotland. It was a true
statement in 1917 and also today. It
came from an article entitled, IS ROMANISM CHRISTIANITY? that
appeared in a four volume set of
books called, THE FUNDAMENTALS, a series of articles by ministers
that sought to address and defend
the basic Christian truths that are the most precious to us.
At that time in history they saw the demonic floodgate of liberalism
opened and were wise enough to know that the war for the truth of
the gospel was happening. This work was headed up by R. A. Torrey
and its purpose was to put into the hands of ministers and laymen
the information they needed to defend the gospel.
These men felt the need to 'draw a line in the sand' on the issue of
the Roman Catholics and let the world know that it was not
Christianity. In their day the Roman Catholics were considered by
some as another form of Christianity. Medhurst said:
One reason why Popery has of late gained so much power in Great
Britain and Ireland, and is gaining power still, is that many
Protestants look on it now as a form of true Christianity; and think
that, on that account, notwithstanding tenderly. (p. .288, THE
FUNDAMENTALS)
The problem that these men saw in 1917 has been compounded many
times over through the years up to
now. The shepherds of the flock of God have allowed Satan to kick the
sands of confusion of the clear
insight that these men shared with the body of Christ. More than ever
before people today accept the
Roman Catholics as another form of Christianity, and more than ever
before people who claim that
Catholicism is not Christianity are persecuted and ridiculed as hateful
and divisive.
The Bible says that everyone who lives for Jesus will be persecuted.
(2 Timothy 3:12 KJV) Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus
shall suffer persecution.
The Bible also says that this persecution will be a great blessing for
us.
(Matthew 5:10-12 KJV) Blessed are they which are persecuted for
righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. {11} Blessed
are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all
manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. {12} Rejoice, and be
exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted
they the prophets which were before you.
4. WHY ARE SO FEW CHRISTIANS PERSECUTED IN AMERICA TODAY?
The answer is simple: they are not witnessing for Jesus and standing
up for the truth of the gospel. We need to determine if the words of
Medhurst are true. Does the salvation of millions of souls depend on
us sharing the true gospel with our Roman Catholic friends? Was
John Wesley correct when he taught that no Roman Catholic could be
saved by believing what their church taught?
But I pity them much; having the same assurance, that Jesus is the
Christ, and that no Romanist can expect to be saved, according to the
terms of his covenant. (p. 220, Volume One, WESLEY'S WORKS, Baker
Book House.)
We need to pay close attention to Paul's words to the church in
Galatia.
(Galatians 1:6-9 KJV) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him
that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: {7}
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would
pervert the gospel of Christ. {8} But though we, or an angel from
heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have
preached unto you, let him be accursed. {9} As we said before, so say
I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that
ye have received, let him be accursed.
IN THE PASSAGE ABOVE PAUL PLACES THOSE WHO PREACH
ANOTHER GOSPEL
UNDER THE CURSE OF GOD.
He repeats this fact twice to give it special emphasis. We should think
long and hard about what it means to be accursed by God. Some
comments on this passage from scholars will be helpful. J. B.
Lightfoot comments:
This word is used in the Old Testament of a person or thing set apart
and devoted to destruction, because hateful to God. Hence in a
spiritual application it denotes the state of one who is alienated from
god by sin. (J. B. Lightfoot's Commentary on the Epistles of St. Paul,
Hendrickson Publishers)
R. C. H. Lenski spoke about being accursed:
As the apostle and representative of Christ and the Father Paul
pronounces the verdict; 'Let him be anathema!' He repeats the verdict
of Jesus himself, uttered against the Pharisees in Matthew 23:13-39.
Anyone who promulgates a different and contrary gospel is eo ipso
"accursed", not because we say it so, but because Christ has said so,
we only repeating his judgement. (p. 41 The Interpretation of
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, R. C. H. Lenski, Lutheran Book
Concern)
THIS PASSAGE AND THESE COMMENTS MAKE IT CLEAR THAT TO
PREACH ANOTHER GOSPEL IS TO BE TOTALLY CUT OFF FROM
CHRIST AND TO BE SET APART FOR TOTAL DESTRUCTION BY GOD.
WE NEED TO REALIZE HOW SERIOUS AND REAL THIS IS.
We now need to determine: Do the Roman Catholics preach a false
gospel? The Bible says that the true gospel is salvation by grace
through faith alone.
(Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any
man should boast.
IT IS ONLY NECESSARY TO READ TWO SENTENCES FROM THE NEW
CATECHISM OF
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TO DETERMINE THE TRUTH THAT THE
ROMAN CATHOLICS
TEACH A FALSE GOSPEL!
5. Justification is conferred in Baptism, the sacrament of faith. It
conforms us to the righteousness of god, who makes us inwardly just
by the power of his mercy. (p. 482, CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC
CHURCH, The Liturgical Press.
When the Catholic Church teaches that justification is conferred in
Baptism, they do so in direct opposition to the word of God, which
teaches that we are justified by grace through faith alone.
(Titus 3:7 KJV) That being justified by his grace, we should be made
heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Romans 3:24 KJV) Being
justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus:
(Romans 5:1 KJV) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
(Romans 4:16 KJV) Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace;
to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only
which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham;
who is the father of us all, The Bible clearly teaches that human
words can play no part in our justification.
(Galatians 2:16 KJV) Knowing that a man is not justified by the
works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have
believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law
shall no flesh be justified.
(Romans 3:28 KJV) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by
faith without the deeds of the law.
(Romans 4:4-5 KJV) Now to him that worketh is the reward not
reckoned of grace, but of debt. {5} But to him that worketh not, but
believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for
righteousness.
The Catholic Church does teach the importance of faith for salvation,
but they say that faith alone is not enough for justification. The
Catholic position on justification could fairly be described as:
Justification = Faith + Works
The Bible states plainly that if you are trying to be saved by 'faith
plus works' the true gospel of justification by grace through faith
alone is cancelled out and made void.
(Romans 11:6 KJV) And if by grace, then is it no more of works:
otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no
more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
(Galatians 2:21 KJV) I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if
righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
(Galatians 3:10-11 KJV) For as many as are of the works of the law
are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that
continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to
do them. {11} But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of
God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
(Galatians 5:4 KJV) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever
of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
6. Not only does the Catholic teaching proclaim salvation and
justification by faith plus works but they also place those who teach
salvation by grace through faith alone under the papal anathema.
This word 'anathema' is the same word used in the Galatians 1:6-9
passage (previously quoted) in which the explanation of the word
meant to be 'cut off' or 'accursed'. The Roman Catholic Church says
because we teach justification by grace through faith in Jesus Christ
alone we are to be 'anathema'.
The Council of Trent made this clear:
If anyone says that the faith which justifies is nothing else but trust
in the divine mercy, which pardons sin because of Christ; or that it is
that trust alone by which we are justified: let him be anathema.

MAKE SOME SERIOUS CONCLUSIONS.
1. The Roman Catholics teach and preach a different gospel than the
true gospel of justification by grace
through faith alone.
2. Preaching a different gospel proves the Roman Catholic Church a
false religion, and not true
Christianity.
3. This places the Roman Catholic Church under the curse of God
according to Galatians 1:8-9, cuts them
off from Christ and places them under the judgment of God.
4. If Christians take the great commission seriously they will prepare
themselves by study and prayer to
share the gospel with our Roman Catholic friends.

Nigerian twin sisters who got married to twin brothers the same day,
have made the Guinness Book of World Records as they were named
the 1st in Africa and the 251st in the world to successfully do such.
The couple were joined together at Foursquare Gospel Church in
Omole, Ikeja, Lagos.
Folawemi Taiwo Okunniyi and Febisola Kehinde Okunniyi are identical
twin sisters from the same parents from Ondo State.
Their grooms,
Chinonso Akinade Okueze and Chibuzor Adelakin Okueze are also
identical twins from the same parents from Asaba, Delta State.
During the church wedding, officials of the Guinnes Book of World
Records acknowledged that they have never had any record or history
of twins’ marriage in Africa.

Director-General, Nigerian Broadcast Commission, Prince Emeka Mba
has announced that his commission will without delay intervene in the
on-going dispute between Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) and
some broadcasting organizations under the platform of Broadcasting
Organization of Nigeria (BON) and Independent Broadcasters
Association of Nigeria (IBAN) over payment of royalties for broadcast
music.
Prince Mba was speaking in reaction to a statement issued by BON/
IBAN that the music of a large number of Nigeria’s topmost artistes
have been banned from being broadcast on stations run by the
members of BON and IBAN with immediate effect.
There was considerable outrage at Protea Hotel, Ikeja on Tuesday,
December 4 at the ANCOP-FIAPF Film Forum organized by
Association of Nollywood Core Producers (ANCOP) and International
Federation of Film Producers Associations when the development
became public.
Many of the participants who spoke reacting to news with terms such
as ‘unprecedented’ and ‘unheard of’ ‘ill wind’, etc. The participants
thereafter asked for the immediate reaction of the NBC boss to the
development.
Prince Mba explained that every broadcast station in Nigeria was
bound by the music quota provided in the broadcast code. According
to him, from the long list of Nigerian artistes said to be affected by
the purported ban by BON and IBAN, he did not see how the stations
could meet their local content obligations and that such a situation
was of serious concern to the NBC.
He restated that a joint effort will be made by the NBC and the
Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to resolve the issues. Article
3.13.2.2 of the Broadcast code issued by NBC says ‘For the purpose
of free-to-air broadcast, Nigerian music shall constitute 80 per cent
of all music broadcast’.
The BON/IBAN press release was read to the participants made up
mostly of motion picture industry practitioners and copyright experts
by Chairman Copyright Society of Nigeria, Chief Tony Okoroji. Opening
by saying, ‘Nigeria has just made history’, Chief Okoroji said that the
development was the first in human history that all the top artistes of
any nation are said to be banned from the airwaves of their nation.
He insisted that if the sad action was to blackmail COSON for taking
some broadcast stations who believe that they are above the law to
court for copyright infringement, he was willing to lay down his life in
the defence of the rights of creative people in Nigeria.
There was a consensus among the several speakers that the entire
Nigerian creative industry must rise against the decision of BON and
IBAN and that the creative industry must prepare itself for a major
battle because if the music industry was the immediate victim, the
day the movie industry would be targeted is not far.
Reacting to the development, the NCC Zonal Manager in Lagos, Mr.
Chris Nkwocha who was representing the DG, said that COSON is the
nation’s sole approved Collecting Society for music and anyone who
broadcasts music is obligated under the law to pay copyright fees for
such broadcast.
He also said that where there is a dispute on the amount of money to
be paid as copyright royalties, any of the broadcast station unhappy
with what is being demanded of them has the right to apply to the
NCC to set up a panel to review the fees under the Copyright
(Collective Management Organisation) Regulations 2007. He therefore
called on the broadcast stations to take advantage of the provision of
the regulations and quickly resolve the matter.

The Photo of a Nigerian who was trapped for three days in an air
pocket of a sunken ship and discovered by divers has been
released. The recently released video taken by South African DCN
Diving captured the intense rescue of the 29-year- old cook.
Harrison Okene, 29, was a chef on the Jascon 4, an oil company’s
ship, when the boat capsized and sank 100 feet into the ocean off the
coast of Nigeria in May due to heavy ocean swells, Reuters reported at
the time.
As the ship sank, Okene was washed away by the rushing water.
“Three men were in front of me and suddenly water rushed in full
force,” Okene told Reuters. “I saw the first one, the second one, the
third one, just washed away. I knew these men were dead.”
Of the 12 members on the crew, Okene was the only survivor, finding
refuge in a small air pocket of the ship.As a South African rescue
diver probed the wreckage of an overturned tugboat in the Atlantic
Ocean off the coast of Nigeria this summer, it was assumed that all
he’d be doing would be recovering the bodies of those who perished.
However, as he was swimming through the murky water inside the
capsized boat on May 28, a hand suddenly reached toward him out of
the gloom.
It was the ship’s cook, Harrison Okene, who had somehow survived
for approximately 60 hours in only his underwear in the freezing cold
water by breathing from a small air pocket and taking sips of Coca-
Cola.
Video of Okene’s dramatic rescue in May shows the moment his hand
penetrated the darkness to alert the diver that he was still alive. Then
it a shirtless Okene is shown from the waist up.”He’s alive! He’s
alive!” the diver exclaims to a colleague on the surface who is guiding
him. ”Just reassure him,” the diver’s colleague says. “Just reassure
him. Pat him on the shoulder.”
Okene was the only one of 12 crew members who survived when the
Jacon-4 tugboat capsized on May 26 in heavy Atlantic storm swells
after assisting an oil tanker that was filling up at a Chevron platform.
Divers recovered 10 other bodies; one other crew member was never
found.
The young cook was in a bathroom at 4:50 a.m. on May 26 when the
tugboat began to turn over and water started pouring in. Okene forced
open the bathroom door and was soon swept down a hallway into
another bathroom, where he survived by breathing from a small air
bubble and keeping his head above the slowly rising water. It was
May 28 by the time Okene saw the light mounted on the diver’s head
and reached out to grab him.
The diving team put Okene in an oxygen mask and diver’s suit and
brought him to the surface, more than 2 ½ days after the ship initially
capsized. Okene then was put in a decompression chamber for
another 60 hours because he had been underwater so long that his
body pressure needed to slowly return to normal to ward off
potentially fatal exposure to regular air pressure.
President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, have
both checked in at a hospital in Germany as a result of a yet to be
disclosed ailment.
On Tuesday night, President Jonathan had abruptly flown out of
Abuja ostensibly to attend a Summit on peace and security in Africa
organized by French government. Several ministers and service chiefs
accompanied him to the airport for the late night flight, but only a
handful of officials travelled on the actual flight.
A reliable source at the Presidency told Sahara Reporters that,
contrary to the impression created that the trip was for the French-
sponsored security summit, Jonathan and his wife are undergoing
tests and receiving treatment in the same German hospital where
Patience spent several months last year.
According to Sahara Reporters, the source added that Mr President
had been feeling unwell since returning from a recent trip to London
where he was hospitalized for a serious stomach-related ailment.
Sahara Reporters had disclosed that the president fell seriously ill
after a bout of bingeing on alcohol.
But the Presidency had denied that report before now.
The source revealed that plans were made for President Jonathan to
receive medical attention in Germany after he suddenly fell ill last
weekend in his home-state of Bayelsa during a visit there.
The
president’s sudden illness almost led to his emergency evacuation to
Germany, the Presidency source said.
